Sexually Transmitted Disease:

These are also called as STD and Venereal diseases. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that can spread from one person to another from having sex with someone who has the infection by vaginal, oral or anal intercourse. STDs are most common infectious disease in the United States. The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites and viruses. There are over 20 types of STDs but here information will be provided for the most common STDs

Most STDs affect both men and women, but in many cases the health problems they cause can be more severe for women. STD in a pregnant woman can cause serious health problems for the baby.

STDs can be transmitted by 3 different type of organisms including parasite, bacteria and virus.

Parasite are very small animals that get nourishment from the person they infect. Pubic lice or crab are an example of sexually transmitted parasites.

Bacteria are single cell organisms. Gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia and chancroid are example of the bacteria.

Viruses are complex molecules that can multiply inside the host cells. HIV, herpes and hepatitis are some of the STD viruses.

Several people seeking sex therapy do not realize that they are infected with STD and lot of the problems with them regarding sexual dysfunctions are side effects and complications of the STD.

During the sessions of sex therapy it is a good idea to inform patients about the some of the complications of STD which may lead to sexual dysfunctions. A suggestion of mutual faithful monogamous relationship may take care of several of the problems.
